Introduction
Our beautiful planet is made up of diverse ecosystems with different organisms inhabiting features that help them fit in their environments. These features distinguish organisms from one another, allowing them to survive and compete for living. According to a research paper published in the journal PLoS Biology, there are more than 8.7 million species in our world today. This variety of organisms in our world is what we call biodiversity. Out of these millions of species, there is one which is increasing at a dangerously rapid rate, influencing many aspects of life: The human species. So, what exactly is overpopulation? It is when the number of people exceeds the area occupied by those people. In this website, we will establish a correlation between overpopulation and biodiversity, explain the importance of the latter and methods to conserve it, as well as the effects of overpopulation in the context of Cairo and the solutions to decrease it. Moreover, the ethical view of the proposed solutions to the problems of overpopulation and decreased biodiversity will be given. |
